China’s terbium oxide, dysprosium oxide and praseodymium neodymium oxide prices pick up slightly on August 25, 2021. The slow follow-up of demand and the heavier psychology of lowering prices have become the main factors hindering the increase in the price of rare earth raw materials. However, due to the limited spot inventory and the support of production costs, suppliers are also reluctant to reduce prices and thus orders are limited.
From the supply side, the shortage of electricity in summer, frequent high temperature and heavy rains and the strengthening of the order of the rare earth industry are the main reasons for reducing the production capacity of rare earth mining enterprises. The impact of the limited export of rare earths in Australia and Myanmar is superimposed on the domestic rare earth spot.
From the demand side, with the gradual recovery of the global economy, downstream industries such as new energy vehicles, wind power generation, inverter air conditioners and consumer electronics have promising development prospects, which are expected to drive the increase in the use of rare earth functional materials. However, the current downstream users basically maintain rigid demand, resulting in slow order growth rate.
The listing price of China’s Southern Rare Earth this week shows that gadolinium oxide is 252,000-25.5000 yuan/ton, which is a decrease of 0-3,000 yuan/ton from the previous quotation; terbium oxide is 80,000-81,000 yuan/ton, which is a reduction of 400,000 yuan/ton from the previous quotation; dysprosium oxide is 26,200-26,500 yuan/ton, which is reduced by 50,000 yuan/ton from the previous quotation; holmium oxide is 900,000-920,000 yuan/ton, which is reduced by 20,000 yuan/ton from the previous quotation.
